In-Person Grand Jury Presentations To Resume April 1

The officer-involved shooting case of Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree will be heard by the Trigg County Grand Jury, but the date for the case being presented has been delayed about a month.

Fifth District Commonwealth’s Attorney Zac Greenwell, the Special Prosecutor in the case, said Kentucky grand juries may resume in-person presentations on April 1. Greenwell added that means the Commonwealth will delay presenting the investigation related to the case until April 14.

The case was going to be presented to a Trigg County Grand Jury on March 10.

The Grand Jury will decide if Acree was justified in the shooting death of 44-year-old Shawn Biby.

Greenwell was appointed special prosecutor in the case by the Kentucky Attorney General’s office late last year. He said it would be up to the Grand Jury to listen to the evidence in the case and decide whether any charges should be brought against Acree in the form of an indictment, if there needs to be further investigation, or if the sheriff’s actions were justified.

Kentucky State Police were called to investigate the shooting that occurred on October 28. Sheriff Aaron Acree responded to Biby’s Forrest Circle residence and reportedly became involved in an altercation with him. Biby passed away as the result of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.
