KY Vaccinations Up, COVID Case Numbers Down

Over 12-percent of the state’s population has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine with vaccination sites approaching 97-percent of its seven-day utilization.

Governor Andy Beshear said Monday that 35-percent of the people receiving the vaccine are 70 and older. 13-percent of people in both the 40 to 49 and 50 to 59 age groups have gotten a shot in their arm.

Beshear also announced that child care workers will also be moved up to the current 1B vaccination phase following a recommendation by the CDC. Workers who qualify can now begin signing up for appointments to vaccinate where they can get in.

click to download audioState health officials said they have distributed 93-percent of all first does received from the federal government. The vaccine rollout is one of the factors being credited with the state seeing a fifth straight week of declining COVID-19 cases and testing positivity.

The state reported 723 new cases Monday – the fewest since October 12. The testing positivity rate of 6.5-percent was the lowest since November 5.

Kentucky also saw COVID-related hospitalizations dip below 1,000 for the first time since November 2.

Beshear called Monday’s numbers continued good news for the state.
