Authorities have confirmed a Hopkinsville man who failed to show up for a court appearance in Christian County died Friday after an altercation with law enforcement in Logan County Thursday afternoon.
State Police say Logan County Sheriff’s deputies located 44-year-old Brian Ellis at the Russellville Walmart and as they tried to arrest him he attempted to hit them with a vehicle. Shots were fired and Ellis was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with a gunshot wound.
Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say Ellis was scheduled Wednesday to appear for sentencing on charges of attempted murder, wanton endangerment, assault, fleeing or evading police, and numerous drug charges. He reportedly failed to show up and cut off his ankle monitor.
No one else was injured in the shooting.
