Roads Slick And Hazardous Around The Region

Road conditions across the listening area are slick and hazardous.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has reported many closures along Interstate 24 Thursday morning, including an extended closure because of a multi-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes near the 86 mile-marker.

District One Spokesman Keith Todd tells the News Edge crews have been out trying to improve road conditions since 4:00 a.m.

Todd asks everyone to be patient and not to travel unless necessary.

He adds anything salt and other things used to clear the roads only work when temperatures are above 16. Officials say they will work to improve the A routes, which are roads that lead to hospitals and other emergency services.

Trigg County Emergency Management Director David Bryant says there have not been many emergencies, but roads are slick.

Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham asks everyone to stay off the roads Thursday.

Scanner traffic in both counties has indicted many wrecks and vehicles sliding off area roadways.

In some good news, Pennyrile Electric is not reporting any power outages around the region as of 8:15 Thursday morning.

The Ice Storm Warning remains effective until 6:00 Thursday evening for all of western Kentucky.
