Hopkinsville Council Votes To Waive Alcohol License Fees

Hopkinsville City Council will waive all alcohol license fees in 2021 after an ordinance passed on second reading during Tuesday’s Council meeting.

City Council voted in favor of waiving the fee after City Clerk Chrissy Fletcher read the ordinance for the second time during the virtual meeting.

The discussion about in-person council meeting began with Councilman Steve Keel, who said he felt it was important for council to meet in person to allow the public the chance to participate.

Holly Boggess with Community Development Services discussed the work of the Local Development Corporation that oversees a number of organizations. The LDC has overseen the completion of a number of projects including the revitalization of the Sudden Service Station on 9th Street, improvements to Campbell Street, entry signs to the city, and a number of other projects. Boggess told council the LDC has overseen numerous projects since the inception.

click to download audioCouncilwoman Alethia West was complimentary of the work done through the LDC over the years. She also encouraged the development of a business incentive program to encourage businesses to locate inside inner city areas.

Council also heard the six month financial report from Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin. Martin noted the finances were still on track for the first six months of the year, with extra money passing through the budget due to funding received through the CARES Act.
