The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an increase in catalytic converter thefts since the last week in December. Sheriff Brent White indicates some of the counties bordering Lyon County have also experienced similar incidents that continued into the early morning hours Sunday.
Sheriff White says if you have a vehicle parked unattended for long periods of time, it may be susceptible to this type of theft and recommends moving these vehicles to a more secure, attended location if possible He adds, in many cases, the thieves are using lithium battery-powered cutting devices to steal the catalytic converters in minutes, if not seconds. He notes these thefts are occurring in daylight and nighttime hours.
Sheriff White says they are following up on leads at this time, but is asking residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to dispatch in Lyon County at 270-388-0911.
