Attorney General Daniel Cameron warned Kentuckians Wednesday to beware of COVID vaccine scams.
Cameron issued a consumer protection alert for potential scams related to impersonating distributors, medical providers, or local health departments claiming they need personal information or payment for the vaccine.
Cameron said scammers have targeted consumers throughout the pandemic with fraudulent pop-up testing sites, fake COVID-19 cures, or work-from-home scams. He added they expect scammers to attempt to take advantage of a new vaccine.
Cameron assured they are committed to monitoring vaccine-related scams to ensure Kentuckians do not become victims and that any scams are investigated and ended.
To avoid scammers, Cameron says to not pay for the promise of a vaccine. Paying for early or immediate access to vaccines is a scam.
You should not receive calls asking for Social Security, credit card, or bank account numbers. If you receive such a call, hang up and verify the source of the caller before proceeding.
Beware of callers offering products such as medicine or treatments claiming to work like the vaccine.
Cameron’s office has not received scam complaints as of Wednesday, however, he said it is important for Kentuckians to remain vigilant.
He urged anyone who is contacted by a scammer about a COVID-19 vaccine to immediately report it to their office by visiting ag.ky.gov/scams or by calling 1-888-432-9257.
