Postal Service Asks for Patience During Record Workload

The United States Postal Service is handling a record amount of mail this year and is in the midst of its busiest time of the year.

Concerns over COVID-19 have seen more people take to the Internet to complete their Christmas shopping, which in turn, increases the workload of postal carriers.

Susan Wright, the spokesman for the Kentuckiana District that includes all of western Kentucky, says online shopping since the pandemic in the spring has meant for a busy 2020.

click to download audioAs Christmas day approaches, people waiting for their mail get more anxious in waiting for packages and cards to arrive. Wright encourages people to use online tracking for their mail when available and asks everyone to be patient.

click to download audioNot only is this week a busy time for mail carriers, but post offices have seen long lines as people drop off packages and mail to be metered, stamped, and mailed. Wright said people need to have everything ready when they walk through the doors to cut down on wait time.
