Area Gander Memorial Events Taking Place Saturday

The Christian County Chamber of Commerce is holding a ceremony Saturday to honor those lost in the Gander crash in 1985.

Director of Military Affairs Mona Nair says this week is the 35th anniversary of the crash.

The crash in Gander, Newfoundland, took 256 lives on December 12, 1985.

The event is being held Saturday afternoon at 12:12 in Gander Memorial Park in Hopkinsville at the intersection of Pennyrile Parkway and Fort Campbell Boulevard.

The 101st Airborne Division is hosting a separate memorial by invitation only. It will consist of two monuments and 256 Canadian sugar maple trees. However, it will be broadcast on the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Facebook page at 9:30 Saturday morning.
