Caldwell Community Mourning Death Of Princeton Native

Friends and family in Caldwell County are mourning the loss of Princeton native and retired Paducah Police Captain, 52-year old Shawn Maxie, who passed away at his home Thursday morning.

The Paducah Police Department announced Maxie’s death on its social media page Thursday evening. He joined the Paducah Police Department on August 8, 1994, and was promoted to sergeant on March 29, 2000. He served on the department’s SWAT team as a sergeant in the drug unit and as a sergeant and captain in the Operations Division. He was also the commander of the Honor Guard and served as a school resource officer.

Maxie was a 1986 graduate of Caldwell County High School.

Will Brown, Food Service Director of Caldwell County Public Schools tells the News Edge he has known Shawn almost his entire life and they went to high school together. He said they had many classes together and they were both Governor Scholars. He says Shawn was a wonderful man and a special individual was lost Thursday.

click to download audioRoy Gene Rogers, a retired educator with the Caldwell school district, says he considered Shawn a real friend. He adds Shawn was a former basketball player, former student, and they coached together for a few months at Saint Mary’s. He says they had lunch together a few weeks ago and discussed how to get help for a homeless couple with a baby in Caldwell County because Shawn served on the board of a shelter in Paducah.

He says Shawn was a man who made a difference in people’s lives and he will truly be missed.
