Beshear Says Kentuckians Must Stay Strong

Governor Andy Beshear on Saturday urged Kentuckians to strengthen their resolve in the fight against the coronavirus with the knowledge that vaccines are on the way.

The governor also reminded Kentuckians to shop safely, to purchase gifts online when possible, and avoid crowded stores. Beshear said if families do need to shop in person, he encouraged them to keep their time inside stores to a minimum and use curbside pickup whenever possible.

Governor Beshear asked Kentuckians to support our small businesses this weekend and holiday season even though we have to do it differently. He said shopping small supports some of our local businesses that have suffered the most economically as we’ve battled COVID-19. He added, “let’s show them we have their backs.”

The governor also reported 2,437 new COVID cases and fourteen new deaths Saturday, including a 73-year old man from Marshall County; a 74-year old man from Logan County; and five women between the ages of 57 to 86-years old from Warren County.

The state’s Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said persistence is key to limiting the spread and preventing further COVID-19 related deaths. He added for Kentuckians to not give in to mask fatigue, and wear your mask correctly. He said vaccines are around the corner and may well be the weapon we need to defeat this illness. Until then, he added Kentuckians need to care for and protect each other by wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and staying home if you are sick
