The Hopkinsville Fire Department is partnering with the local Salvation Army to host a virtual angel tree program this year.
Chief Inspector/Fire Marshal Chad Sivills said Hopkinsville firefighters have been bringing holiday spirit and providing clothes, toys and gifts to families in need since 1996, and they want to continue the tradition.
He added the 24th Annual Christmas for Kids program is asking local businesses and residents to adopt families by claiming a spot on the Christmas for Kids virtual angel tree. A total of 50 families, chosen by Hopkinsville’s Salvation Army chapter, can be assisted by purchasing requested needs, wish lists, clothing items, and more.
Sivills said all purchased items, which will remain unwrapped, must be dropped off at the Hopkinsville Fire Department Main Station at 116 W. 1st Street by Monday, December 14 at 5:00 p.m.
Businesses and residents that participate will have their logo or name added to the virtual angel tree on social media. Once all items are collected, HFD personnel will be making personal deliveries to each home.
The virtual angel tree will be on a first-come, first-serve basis for donors; additional donations may be made to reach beyond the 50-family threshold potentially. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
Local donors will receive the first names, ages, sexes, and specific sizes of each child in their adopted family, as well as precise gift requests and wishes. To adopt a family, contact Sivills at (270) 890-1450 or email him at csivills@hopkinsvilleky.us.
