Eastbound I-24 Detour Planned Thursday Evening

Motorists traveling eastbound on Interstate 24 through parts of Caldwell, Lyon, and Trigg counties need to be aware of a temporary detour beginning Thursday evening.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the temporary detour will be between the 52 and 65-mile markers starting at 5:00. He says eastbound traffic will exit off at the KY 293 Princeton-Eddyville Exit 45 interchange. Motorists will then head south on KY 93, then follow KY 276 to U.S. 68 near Cadiz before rejoining I-24 Eastbound at Exit 65.

To help reduce anticipated congestion along the marked detour via KY 93 and KY 276, Todd advises motorists from the Paducah area traveling east on I-24 Thursday evening to consider using an alternate route via I-69 South and U.S. 68 East between Exit 25 at Calvert City and Exit 65 at Cadiz.

Todd says oversized loads will be directed to pull over and wait for the work to be completed as overweight and over-dimensional loads will not be allowed along the detour via KY 93 and KY 276.

According to Todd, the temporary detour is to allow extensive pavement patching and shoulder repairs along the eastbound one-lane section of I-24. He says the work is to improve the driving surface area and shoulder area to prepare for extra traffic during the busy Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

Eastbound motorists should be prepared to encounter delays as flaggers will be controlling traffic to enhance traffic flow at intersections along the temporary detour. Motorists and truckers should use extra caution as this detour runs along rural secondary highways.

Todd says the temporary detour is expected to be in place until 11:00 Thursday evening.
