Hopkinsville Man Indicted on Charges from 2019 Injury Accident

The Christian County Grand Jury returned six indictments Friday, including that of a Hopkinsville man charged with leaving the scene of an accident that injured two people.

Hasaan Slaughter

The grand jury indicted 30-year-old Hasaan Slaughter on charges of leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance with serious physical injury, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. The charges stem from a November 4, 2019 rollover crash on Russellville Road near Western State Hospital.

Hopkinsville Police said Slaughter was driving the vehicle when it ran off the road, hit a drainage ditch, and a sign, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times. The result led to his passenger Michaela Jones becoming ejected. A second passenger Devin Zahabi-Sutton was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. During the investigation after the wreck, a handgun reportedly belonging to Slaughter was found in the vehicle.

Carson Carey

The grand jury also indicted 30-year-old Carson Carey, of Oak Grove, on charges of second-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault. The charges come from an incident on September 21, where Oak Grove Police said Carey got into an argument with his girlfriend. During the argument, the victim said Carey punched her in the eye and placed his hands around her neck.

Johnney McKinney, Jr

The jury also indicted 25-year-old Johnney McKinney, Jr., of Dawson Springs, on charges of first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree attempted escape. The charges come after an incident on September 18 after being arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Department. They report he was arrested on several outstanding warrants and was placed in the back of a cruiser. While in the back seat, McKinney attempted to break out the back passenger door by kicking, pushing, and ripping at it. The door was damaged beyond repair and needed to be replaced.
