Traffic to Start Using U.S. 68/Kentucky 139 R-Cut Thursday

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to move north-south traffic on Kentucky 139/South Road to the new R-Cut (J-Turn) at the U.S. 68 intersection Thursday.

District One Spokesman Keith Todd said the permanent shift is planned to begin around 8 a.m. with motorists asked to use caution and be alert for personnel along the roadway changing the work zone traffic configuration.

Todd added this area continues to be an active work zone.

While negotiating the R-Cut adds a few extra seconds of travel time, Todd said it cuts the number of traffic conflict points in half.

In February, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District One engineers met with the Trigg County Fiscal Court to outline efforts to enhance safety at the intersection.

Todd adds the R-Cut intersections are starting to become a common occurrence across the district and the Commonwealth.

Approximately 6,200 vehicles travel through the U.S. 68/Kentucky 139 intersection on an average day.
