Hopkinsville Mayor Candidates Discussed Priorities With Rotary

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch and Republican challenger J.R. Knight discussed downtown revitalization, the city pension, and other issues with Hopkinsville Rotary Tuesday.

Mayor Lynch says revitalizing downtown Hopkinsville will be key to future growth.

Knight says we need to work hard to bring downtown Hopkinsville back to where it was prior to the pandemic.

When asked about the greatest competition for Hopkinsville, Knight said Clarksville and their tax system.

Lynch says he has a plan he wants to implement if elected.

Both say they favor putting the non-partisan city council change on the ballot to let the voters decide.

Knight said if elected, he wants to review spending in each department and see if increases or decreases are needed. Lynch says more money is needed for essential services, with other areas to be reviewed.
