Christian County Reports New COVID-19 Death, Kentucky Update

The Christian County Health Department reported the county’s 31st COVID-linked death Tuesday afternoon.

Spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney said the latest death was a 61-year-old African American female with underlying health conditions. The health department’s prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased.

Sweeney also confirmed 14 new COVID-19 cases, with 284 of the county’s 1,922 cases deemed active. Of those, 193 are either 59 or younger, and 91, 60 or older.

Christian County has reported 1,607 recoveries since the pandemic began.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky announced a record-high number of COVID-19 cases for a Tuesday.

The state confirmed 1,786 new cases and 18 new deaths. Governor Andy Beshear said all of the deaths occurred in October.

The state’s positivity rate rose to 5.97-percent Tuesday. Currently, 913 people remain hospitalized with COVID-19 across the state, with 233 in the ICU.

In some good news, Christian County entered the ‘orange’ category on the state’s COVID-19 incidence rate map. The county has been in the ‘red’ category for several weeks. The 7-day incidence is calculated by the state every day.
