One Person Injured in Collision Involving Two Motorcycles in Lyon County Wednesday

One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident involving motorcycles between Fredonia and Eddyville in Lyon County Wednesday morning.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says deputies were dispatched around 10:35 to reports of a possible two-vehicle injury collision on US Highway 641, approximately 2.5 miles north of Eddyville. He adds preliminary investigation revealed 58-year-old Billy R. Marvel, of Marion, was southbound on US 641on a motorcycle when he came upon traffic stopped near the Skinframe Creek Bridge and had to stop abruptly. Another motorcycle behind Marvel, which was driven by 62-year-old Jon C. Shackleford, was unable to stop in time and collided with the back of Marvel’s motorcycle, causing both to overturn.

Sheriff White notes traffic was stopped due to an oncoming semi-tractor trailer meeting a pedestrian who was on the bridge.

Shackleford was transported to Baptist Health in Paducah by Lyon County EMS for treatment of incapacitating injuries. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Sheriff White states US 641 was shut down for approximately 1.5 hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by Lyon County EMS and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
