Caldwell County Surpasses Trigg County in Confirmed COVID Cases

Trigg County has seen a slight increase in COVID-19 cases in the second week of October compared to the first. Numbers released by the Pennyrile District Health Department showed 18 new cases in Trigg County in the past week, compared to 12 in the first week. Two new cases were confirmed Wednesday.

As of last Friday, the health department said 24 of the cases were active. There have been 214 total cases in Trigg since the pandemic began, with Caldwell County passing Trigg Wednesday for the first time with 217 cases.

Lyon County reported two new cases Wednesday, with the number there increasing by just one in the past week compared to the first seven days of the month. The county still has the fewest number of cases in the five-county district served by the health department at 89. Livingston County has reported 104 cases and Crittenden County has reported 145.

As of Wednesday, only Caldwell County is in the red according to the state’s incidence rate which is based on daily case increases over a 100,000 population scale. Caldwell County’s 32.5-percent rate is considered critical by the state formula.

Trigg, Lyon, and Livingston were labeled ‘orange’ or accelerated counties. Crittenden County at 9.7-percent is labeled ‘yellow’ or one with community spread.
