Eighth District State Representative Walker Thomas has been recognized by the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) for his work in the 2020 Regular Session of the General Assembly.
Thomas was presented the 2020 ‘Friend of Kentucky Cities’ Award after KLC officials said he stood with cities for several years on the effort to separate the County Employees Retirement System (CERS) from the Kentucky Retirement System (KRS), and he cosponsored House Bill 484. KLC officials added Walker also ensured language was included in House Bill 378 to protect the amount cities pay when filing or releasing a property lien.
KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney and the KLC’s director of public affairs and Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch presented the award to Thomas. Chaney said at the presentation the experience Representative Thomas gained as a member of Hopkinsville City Council has made him an invaluable proponent of home rule. He added they appreciate Thomas’ willingness to work with the KLC on legislation that makes our cities stronger.
Representative Thomas said he has been and will continue to be a strong ally of our local governments, and he expressed his appreciation to the Kentucky League of Cities for the award.
The KLC was founded in 1927 and is a membership association of more than 370 cities across the commonwealth. The KLC Board of Directors bestows the ‘Friend of Kentucky Cities’ award on legislators who perform outstanding work advocating for issues that impact cities across the state.
