Kynect Relaunching to Provide Extended Health Benefits, Other Assistance

Governor Andy Beshear announced Monday morning a major step in his commitment to providing quality health care to residents of the Commonwealth.

During a news conference, the governor said the state has reconnected the kynect program in order to provide easier access to health coverage and other benefits.

Beshear added the new kynect expanded benefits, enhanced usability, and a new mobile-friendly format, will ready the Commonwealth for the return of the state-based exchange, scheduled for enrollment in 2021. The exchange will open in 2022 and is expected to save Kentucky residents about $15 million a year.

Beshear said every resident should have access to affordable health care.

Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman said as Secretary of Education, this will positively affect children with their physical health, mental health, learning, and social development.

Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Eric Friedlander added, “Kynect amplifies the reassurance we continuously receive from Governor Beshear: Health care is a basic human right.”

The Cabinet for Health and Family Services website, which launched in 2014, helped over 500,000 Kentuckians that year.
