Over 30 teams participated in the Hopkinsville Community College Foundation Mike Foster Golf Scramble in Hopkinsville Friday for a chance to win cash prizes totaling $1,500 and the chance to win a 2020 Honda Accord or $30,000 in cash from Sisk Auto Mall.

HCC officials said the scramble began honoring its founders: Mike Foster, Hill Ferguson, and Don Atwood. HCC Foundation Executive Director and HCC Chief Advancement Officer Yvette Eastham announced that since the scramble began in 1990 the net proceeds from the annual charitable event have garnered more than $256,100. The three founders were present before the shotgun start and each received a commemorative plaque, honoring the occasion. Eastham pointed out that 30 years ago, the trio was searching for a way to raise money to support textbook scholarships for HCC students, and came up with the idea of a golf scramble. She said the scramble supports not only textbook scholarships but also the Pathfinder Pantry, a relatively new resource for students at HCC, providing food, personal hygiene, and infant items to those in need.

Co-chairs of this year’s event, Greg Pryor and Todd Morris said sponsorships were up 300 percent from the previous year.

According to HCC officials, winning first-place and $600 was Buy-Rite. The team members were from Novelis and included Trey Gilliand, Mike Morris, Kirk Dulin and Jackie Sholar. Second-place and $500 went to Trigg County Hospital. Sixth-place and $300 in prize money was captured by Planters Bank. The $100 prize for half the field went to Westate Construction.
