Trigg Man Indicted for Attempted Murder, Grand Jury Returns Other Indictments

A Cadiz man has been indicted by a Trigg County grand jury on attempted murder charges stemming from a fight earlier this year.

34-year-old Dustin Underwood is charged with attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance – first degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, and being a persistent felony offender in the second degree.

Underwood is charged with stabbing another man’s jaw during a May 19 fight in southern Trigg County.

Other indictments returned by grand jury included a first-degree sexual abuse charge against 20-year-old James Elkins of Cadiz. He is charged with subjecting a person under the age of 12 to sexual contact in 2018.

The grand jury also returned an indictment against 27-year-old Christopher Herndon of Cadiz for first-degree burglary, three counts of third-degree assault, second-degree assault on a service animal, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and being a persistent felony offender.

Herndon was arrested by the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office in March following a report of a burglary in progress. They said he was located in the attic of the home by a police K-9 and was bit by the dog. Herndon reportedly hit the dog in addition to assaulting two deputies during the arrest.

Other indictments returned by the September session of the Trigg County grand jury include:

Haley D. Hooks, 28, of Cadiz — Possession of a controlled substance – first degree; possession of drug paraphernalia

Darrell D. Gordon, 46, of Cadiz — possession of a controlled substance – first degree (two counts); possession of drug paraphernalia (two counts); possession of a handgun by a convicted felon

Stephanie R. McCloud, 37, of Cadiz — tampering with physical evidence; possession of a controlled substance – first degree; possession of drug paraphernalia

Lori A. Taylor, 39, of Ekron, Kentucky — theft by deception under $10,000

Reese A. Gilbert, 25, of Cadiz — receiving stolen property (firearm); expired Kentucky registration; expired plates, and speeding.

James A. Pitts, 20, of Bon Aqua, Tenn. — fleeing police – first degree; receiving stolen property under $10,000; wanton endangerment – first degree (two counts); operating on a suspended license.
