Annual Veterans’ Program and Luncheon to Be Held Differently Due to COVID-19

Officials with a veterans program based in Lyon County have released information concerning an annual luncheon and program which will be quite different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Terrie White with the Veterans’ Program says because of COVID-19 related restrictions for school districts across the state they will be unable to host the traditional luncheon and program at the Lyon County Elementary School. She adds the Veterans’ Program still wishes to honor local veterans in the safest way possible so instead of canceling the program altogether they will be having a Veterans’ Program T-Shirt Drive-Through Giveaway the Friday before Veterans Day.

White states the event, themed “Honor the Fallen, Thank the Living,” will be held November 6th from 1 until 3PM behind the Cabin Bait and Tackle in Kuttawa. She notes t-shirts, which feature white text on a camo background, will only be given to veterans and active duty military due to limited supply. Volunteers will be lined up in the parking lot ready to honor veterans and all veterans are instructed to drive through to the small pavilion where they will receive their free Veterans’ Program T-shirt. Those who will be picking up a shirt for a veteran who is unable to come are being asked to arrive at 2:30PM.

White expresses her hope is to be back in full force with the traditional program and luncheon for 2021.
