U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered remarks on the Senate floor Thursday morning regarding the Breonna Taylor case and protests in Louisville overnight.
Senator McConnell said he has spoken repeatedly in recent months about the tragic killing of Taylor in his hometown in Louisville, the need for justice, and the healing work ahead for the community.
McConnell added he has full confidence in the investigation conducted by Kentucky’s Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

He said many Kentuckians have channeled their continuing grief and anger into a peaceful exercise of the First Amendment rights. He added Louisville Wednesday night saw more of the lawlessness, riots, and violence that has plagued American cities too often this year.

Senator McConnell expressed his gratitude to all the Kentucky peace officers who continue to put their lives on the line every day.
At the conclusion of his remarks, McConnell said he hopes and expects Kentucky’s governor and Louisville’s mayor will take every necessary step to secure the justice, peace, law, and order that every Kentuckian deserves.
His remarks come one day after a Jefferson County grand jury indicted former Louisville Police Detective Brett Hankinson on three counts of wanton endangerment. Hankinson was one of three officers who served a search warrant at Taylor’s apartment in March. He was charged with shooting into adjoining apartments when Taylor’s boyfriend opened fire on an officer who breached the door with the warrant. Officers Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove returned fire with Cosgrove firing the shot that killed Taylor. Neither Mattingly nor Cosgrove were indicted with Cameron calling the shooting justified.
