Kentucky Reports Over 800 New COVID-19 Cases Tuesday

Four counties throughout the region remain in “red zones” this week, as designated by the White House.

Governor Andy Beshear shared that information during his Tuesday news briefing, in which he said the counties may not necessarily match their report.

The White House weekly report showed Caldwell, Christian, Logan, and Trigg counties in the “red zone”, even though Tuesday’s map from the state only showed Caldwell and Christian counties.

In guidance released by Governor Beshear’s office last week, if a county goes into the red on their report, it’s recommended that schools switch over to NTI work and halt in-person classes until they return to at least yellow.

In some good news, Governor Beshear confirmed Tuesday the state received approval from FEMA for the 3 weeks of the extra $400 of unemployment for people who qualify. The weeks that will include the extra money include August 22, August 29, and September 5. Beshear added the money will be paid each week instead of one lump sum payment.

Beshear confirmed 824 new COVID-19 cases and 7 new deaths Tuesday. The state’s death toll is now 1,119 and the positivity rate rose to 4.52%.

Beshear also announced they are working on guidance for Halloween.

All guidance issued by the state can be found here.
