The trial of a Hopkinsville woman charged in a fatal shooting on Greenville Road in June 2019 was scheduled to get underway in Christian County Circuit Court Monday morning but instead, another hearing was set in order to allow more time for a possible resolution of the case.

Anshanique Leavell and her defense attorney, Michael Thompson and Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling appeared virtually before Chief Circuit Judge John Atkins. Thompson requested the trial be postponed and for a pretrial conference to be scheduled next month in hopes he and the Commonwealth’s Attorney can get closer to resolving the case. Judge Atkins set the hearing for October 21st.

Leavell is accused of fatally shooting Armareya Freeman in the chest on the front porch of an apartment complex on Greenville Road shortly before midnight on June 6, 2019. Shortly after the shooting, police said Leavell was stopped by officers on Russellville Road at East 7th Street and found in possession of a stolen handgun.

Leavell is charged with murder and receiving stolen property (firearm). She remains lodged in the Christian County Jail.
