Kentucky State Police Warning of Scams in Local Area

Kentucky State Police are alerting citizens of several scams being reported around the area.

KSP Post 2 Public Information Officer Trooper Rob Austin states the post in Madisonville has been contacted by multiple concerned citizens about two different, but similar, scams. He adds the first scam was a call from someone claiming to work for AT&T and advised the victim if they would send $1,000 via eBay cards their monthly bill would be lower. The caller also indicated after sending the payments the victim could qualify for additional discounts if more eBay cards were sent.

Trooper Austin reports the second scam was very similar but the caller claimed to work for Amazon and requested money to be sent via Google Play cards.

Trooper Austin is reminding all citizens to never share their Social Security Number or other personal information, such as banking information, online or by phone. He notes legitimate businesses will also never ask you to pay with Apple cards, eBay cards, Google Play cards, or any other prepaid card.
