Kentucky State Police Post 2 in Madisonville is welcoming a new commander.
Post 2 spokesman Trooper Rob Austin announced this week that Derek Smith was promoted to Captain. Smith is a 15-year veteran who started his career with KSP in 2005. In 2012, Smith was promoted to Sergeant and served in Posts at Campbellsburg, Madisonville, and Mayfield. In 2017, he was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to Post 2 in Madisonville where he served as the Criminal Investigations Lieutenant until his promotion to Captain on September 1st.
Captain Smith expressed his excitement to continue serving the Post 2 community in his new role as commander and said he looks forward to the challenge.
