Kentucky Preparing for COVID-19 Vaccine

Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says the state is working on their plan to distribute a COVID-19 vaccine, whenever one is available.

During Thursday’s news conference with Governor Andy Beshear, Stack adds a partnership has been formed with the state’s emergency management.

Stack says there are several corners that can not be cut, especially when giving a vaccine to a healthy person.

Lead White House Coronavirus Task Force member Dr. Anthony Fauci said this week it’s “conceivable” that a safe vaccine could be ready by October, but he expects it to more likely be ready closer to the end of the year.

During Thursday’s update, Governor Beshear confirmed 906 new COVID-19 cases, making it among one of the highest single-day totals announced since the pandemic began. The governor also announced 10 new deaths raising the death toll to 976.

The state’s positivity rate remains below 5 percent, at 4.53%.
