CCHS Music Programs Selected To Perform at 2021 KMEA Conference

Two music programs at Christian County High School have been selected to perform at the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Professional Development Conference in February 2021.

According to school officials, the CCHS Percussion Ensemble and CCHS Concert Choir were chosen for a performance slot after they sent a recorded performance to the KMEA selection committee who evaluated several groups across the state that applied for consideration in both categories. CCHS officials say this is one of the highest recognitions a performing ensemble can receive at the state level.

CCHS Assistant Band Director Calvin Warren said being selected to perform at the 2021 KMEA conference is a huge deal for their students. He added the students are extremely excited for their performance and are looking forward to achieving this goal during these unique times. He said they are extremely proud of the CCHS Percussion Ensemble.

CCHS Choir Director Ben Stephens said they are honored to perform at this year’s KMEA conference. He added this performance is an outstanding opportunity for the students to showcase their talent, and hard work for the community, the school district, and for the state of Kentucky. He said they are proud to be part of a continuing tradition of musical excellence at CCHS and to help leave a legacy of outstanding musicianship in our community and throughout the commonwealth.

Due to current circumstances, CCHS officials said this year’s KMEA conference will be different, as it will be held virtually. Each performing group selected will be given the opportunity to live stream at an assigned time, or to share a recorded performance for replay during the conference. Specific times and dates will be announced at a later date.
