Governor Andy Beshear says Kentucky reported the largest number of COVID-19 cases ever during the past week.

During his Sunday afternoon update, Governor Beshear said the state recorded 462 new cases which puts the week’s total at 4,503.  The number of COVID cases rose to 48,032.  Of the new cases seventy-nine were children 18 and younger, with 13 of the cases involving children five and under.

The Governor said with the new weekly high it means we have to do better.  He adds with this number of cases we see more people hospitalized and sadly more people being lost to COVID-19.  Beshear reminded people to wear masks and make good decisions because this is a time when the virus is spreading aggressively.

Governor Beshear reported nine new deaths Sunday afternoon, which raises the statewide death toll to 930 Kentuckians lost to the virus.  The deaths were in Lincoln, Russell, Green, Calloway, Harlan, Casey and Fayette Counties.

With the running of the Kentucky Oaks and Derby, and the Labor Day holiday weekend Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack encouraged everyone to enjoy the weekend of activities, but also find ways to keep you and others safe.  He adds stay Healthy at Home as much as possible.  Dr. Stack added when going out in public, practice social distancing, wear a mask whenever you are near others, and wash hands often.  Dr. Stack says if we do these things we have a much better chance for a safer, healthier fall with family and friends.
