Trigg County Schools to Hire District Counselor

Trigg County School Board members approved to hire a district counselor, to request a proposal for an athletic trainer, and to purchase new preschool playground equipment during Thursday evening’s meeting.

Director of Student Services James Mangels says under Senate Bill 1, or the School Safety and Resiliency Act, the district has to take a look at their counseling needs.

Mangels adds the person would purely work as a mental health/social-emotional support specialist, beginning this school year.

Also, the district is getting a counselor to work with children in the district who have parents in the military. Mangels says the position will be paid for by Fort Campbell.

Board members also approved to enter a non-competitive negotiation to acquire an athletic trainer for the district. Typically the district has not had to pay for one, the same with many, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals are not able to provide them for free this year.

In addition, board members approved to purchase new playground equipment for preschool students, with a cost of $30,152. The preschool program has been without playground equipment for over a year due to ongoing construction at the primary and intermediate schools.
