Traffic was stalled for several hours between Fredonia and Eddyville Thursday night following a pop up storm.
Fredonia Assistant Fire Chief Brian Bietz says around 8:30 crews were dispatched to reports of a fallen tree around the 2 mile marker on Highway 641. He adds when crews arrived they discovered the tree was blocking both lanes of the roadway and had pulled down an AT&T utility pole.
Bietz states crews were on scene for several hours cutting up the tree and removing it from the roadway, causing a significant traffic backup. He notes crews were able to get one lane of travel open after about two hours in order to help disperse stalled traffic.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet the roadway was fully open and cleared by 1:30 Friday morning.
Bietz states service was cut to several homes in the immediate area overnight as crews with AT&T worked to replace the fallen pole.
The Fredonia Fire Department were assisted at the scene by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Personnel, and personnel with AT&T.
No other storm damage has been reported in Caldwell County.
