Employee at HCC Wins International Award

Jennifer Nazario

A Hopkinsville Community College employee has won a prestigious international award.

HCC officials announced Friday afternoon that Jennifer Nazario has been named a recipient of the Virginia Carter Smith Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Scholarship. She was selected from applicants across the globe as one of 100 award winners. Officials say the scholarship is awarded to individuals who demonstrate considerable promise and potential as educational advancement professionals.

Nazario, a Clarksville resident, is the only recipient working for a Kentucky institution, and one of only three recipients in CASE District III.

This award is named for a legendary CASE employee, Virginia “Ginny” Carter Smith, who served CASE and its members from 1975 until retiring in 1991. Among her many roles, Smith oversaw books, publications, communications, conferences, membership, district and board relations, and the committee to advance minorities and women. She also served as acting president twice and was the founder and editor of Currents magazine. She passed away in 1995.
