Governor Andy Beshear reported 792 new coronavirus cases Friday, including 114 new cases from children ages 18 and younger. He added 27 of the children were five years old and under, including a one-month-old from Green County.

During his Friday update, the governor also reported eight new deaths, including the 85-year old female and the 86-year old man in Christian County that were reported by the health department Thursday. The new deaths raised Kentucky’s death toll to 918 related to COVID-19.

The governor said we still have a whole lot of cases in Kentucky which means a number of people get sick and we lose a number of people too. He added the good news is the state’s positivity rate continues to decline. He said if we keep wearing these masks and we keep doing the work, we can get this to a manageable level to get our kids back in school and get back to more of our old lives.

As of Friday, Beshear said there have been at least 860,738 COVID tests performed in the state. The positivity rate is currently at 4.50%.

To date, over 10,200 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.
