A special judge set a status hearing for next month in the case against a former Hopkinsville band director facing sex-related charges with a minor in 2019 and his wife who was charged with tampering with witnesses.
Former Hopkinsville High School Band Director Seth Peveler was indicted in June 2019 on four counts of third-degree rape, four counts of third-degree sodomy, and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. His wife, Hannah Peveler, who resigned as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, was indicted for three counts of tampering with a witness.
The Pevelers and their defense attorneys, along with special prosecutor Dennis Foust held a telephone conference for a pretrial conference with Special Circuit Judge James Jameson Tuesday afternoon. Foust asked Judge Jameson for another hearing to possibly set a trial date if the case cannot be resolved.
Judge Jameson set the status hearing for September 17 at 1:00 p.m.
The charges against Seth Peveler were lodged in May 2019 after he allegedly allowed a student to smoke marijuana and then had sexual intercourse with the female. More charges were lodged against Peveler after other students came forward to share their stores with investigators. The sodomy charges accuse Peveler of having deviate sexual activity with a student or students on four occasions. He resigned as band director in May 2019.
Peveler’s wife, Hannah, is accused of attempting to induce witnesses to not testify against her husband and resigned from the Christian County Commonwealth’s Attorney office in June 2019 after she was indicted by the grand jury.
