Details Released in Trigg County Murder Case

A Cadiz man charged in connection with the murder of a Powderly man appeared in Trigg District Court for a preliminary hearing Tuesday morning.

State Police charged 31-year old Montie Streeval with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon in connection to the death of 25-year old Cameron Phillips. The results of an autopsy revealed Phillips died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Streeval and his defense attorney appeared before District Judge Jamus Redd. The Commonwealth called State Police Detective David Dick, who presented evidence they have collected in the case, so far.

Dick says through their investigation they determined Streeval had picked up Phillips for an alleged drug deal and drove to Cadiz on July 28.

Dick said they obtained search warrants for Streeval’s residence and seized two vehicles and a loaded pistol for forensic testing. He added they believe the gun that was found above Streeval’s bed was used in the crime.

Dick added that Streeval has denied committing the crime. As part of his testimony, he also stated State Police obtained search warrants for electronic devices and are waiting for other search warrants for cell tower data and several Facebook accounts. State Police previously reported Phillips’ body was found in a wooded area near a cemetery on Old Rocky Point Road. Dick says Streeval was familiar with this area.

Dick states there was a previous encounter between the two men, in which Streeval allegedly pulled a gun on Phillips and held him at gunpoint during a drug deal.

After hearing all the evidence, Judge Redd forwarded the case to the grand jury. Streeval remains lodged in the Christian County Jail under a $1 million bond.
