Portion Of Lafayette Road In Hopkinsville To Be Closed Monday

Motorists traveling in Hopkinsville need to be aware contractors will close Lafayette Road near Country Club Lane Monday to move additional sections of the pedestrian bridge into place, weather permitting.

City officials say the contractors, Scott and Murphy, will close Lafayette Road at this site at 5:00 Monday morning, which is expected to be reopened around 5:00 that afternoon.

As previously reported, road closures are needed to construct the pedestrian bridge central to a 1.7-mile expansion of the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail as part of the Hoptown-Christian County WINS projects. Once installed, officials say the 1400-foot bridge, spanning over 1/4 mile, will be the longest of its kind in the Commonwealth.

The first section of the pedestrian bridge was installed over Country Club Lane the first week of August.

Motorists traveling on Lafeyette Road Monday will need to pay attention to the detour signage to avoid the area.
