KSP Hosting “Cover the Cruiser” Fundraiser for Special Olympics

During the last week of July the Kentucky State Police is inviting the public to ‘Cover the Cruiser’ in support of Special Olympics Kentucky (SOKY).

KSP Post 2 Public Information Officer Trooper Rob Austin says posts across the state will have cruisers parked at designated locations like gas stations and grocery stores and are encouraging the public to cover their cruisers with custom SOKY stickers. He adds for a minimum donation of dollar, which will go directly to SOKY, Kentuckians can purchase those stickers at the designated locations and place them on the Trooper’s cruiser.

Trooper Austin states the fundraising event was planned when the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run was canceled due to COVID-19. Normally each year The Torch Run escorts the Special Olympics Flame of Hope to kick off the State Summer Games in Richmond.

He notes a Post 2 cruiser will be at the Casey’s General Store in Central City on Tuesday from 9AM until 1PM and a Post 1 cruiser will be the Casey’s General Store in Mayfield on Thursday from 10AM until 2PM for those who wish to come and purchase a sticker for SOKY.
