A Dawson Springs man indicted by the grand jury earlier this month on multiple charges, including attempted murder of a Christian County deputy, appeared in Christian Circuit Court for his arraignment Wednesday morning.
32-year old Bradley Wayne Dunning was indicted for three counts of attempted murder of a police officer, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property under $10,000, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, and first-degree persistent felony offender.
At the arraignment, Dunning and his defense attorney Rick Sandborn appeared before Chief Circuit Judge John Atkins and entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
Dunning’s pretrial conference is scheduled for 8:30 on October 7th.
Dunning’s charges stem from the night of June 6 when the Christian County Sheriff’s Office reports Deputy Brandon Myers was on routine patrol in the area of Eagle Way Bypass and Pennyrile Parkway and saw an ATV that had wrecked. The deputy got out of his cruiser to help the operator, later identified as Dunning, who was claiming to be injured. When Myers tried to provide aid, Dunning reportedly pulled a handgun and tried to shoot Myers in the head, however, the weapon malfunctioned and did not fire. Deputy Myers was then able to take Dunning into custody and called for backup.
After Dunning’s arrest, deputies said they later discovered the four-wheeler has been stolen from a burglarized building at Tie Breaker Park, on Eagle Way Bypass, in Hopkinsville and that a pickup truck Dunning was driving had been stolen from Princeton.
