Dawson Springs Man Indicted For Attempted Murder Of Deputy

Bradley Dunning

The Christian County Grand Jury Friday indicted a Dawson Springs man on multiple charges, including attempted murder of a police officer, after he allegedly tried to shoot a sheriff’s deputy last month.

32-year old Bradley Wayne Dunning was indicted for three counts of attempted murder of a police officer, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property under $10,000, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, and first-degree persistent felony offender.

The charges stem from the night of June 6 when Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Myers was on routine patrol in the area of Eagle Way Bypass and Pennyrile Parkway and saw an ATV that had wrecked. Deputy Myers got out of his cruiser to help the operator, later identified as Dunning, who was claiming that he was injured. When Deputy Myers tried to provide aid, Dunning pulled a handgun and tried to shoot the deputy in the head, however the weapon malfunctioned and did not fire. Deputy Myers was able to take Dunning into custody and called for backup.

The arrest report said deputies later discovered the four-wheeler had been stolen from a burglarized building at Tie Breaker Park on Eagle Way Bypass in Hopkinsville, and a pickup truck that Dunning was driving had been stolen from Princeton.

Foster James III

The grand jury also indicted 41-year old Foster Laverne James III of Hopkinsville for first degree attempted assault – domestic violence, two counts of wanton endangerment, using restricted ammunition during a felony, and tampering with physical evidence. The charges are in connection to a shooting that occurred at an apartment on South Virginia Street on May 9.

Hopkinsville Police reported James fired a gun during an argument over using his neighbor’s phone and fired a shot at Michael Holman, grazing his hip. Police said Holman only suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention. Police also reported a man and woman were inside the apartment when James fired the gun, places their lives at risk.
