Trigg County Hospital Applies for Grant to Add Patient Rooms

Trigg County Hospital has applied for a grant from the Pennyrile Area Development District that, if awarded, would allow making every patient room private.

CEO John Sumner told the Board of Trustees Thursday afternoon the $100,000 grant would help them cover more than half the costs with expanding to 18 private rooms in the hospital.

In addition to the six new rooms, the project would add two shower rooms and a nurses’ station.

Sumner estimated the project will cost around $180,000. He said the private rooms will make the patients more comfortable, instead of having to share a room with another patient.

Sumner also told board members that numbers were down in May for outpatient rehabilitation, behavioral health, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, ambulance service, the emergency room, and the primary care clinic.

Sumner stressed that no COVID-19 positive patients have been in the main section of the hospital, and if any were to come in, they would immediately be taken to the back portion.

Sumner said the hospital has purchased a COVID-19 trailer, that will allow to them conduct tests inside. He said the trailer will stay at the Rural Health Clinic but can be moved to other locations within the community if expanded testing is needed elsewhere.
