A firefighter with the Pembroke Fire Department has tested positive for COVID-19.
Fire Chief Nicholas Belair reported Monday morning the firefighter tested positive within the last 24-hours and is under a doctor’s care and doing well.
Chief Belair says the fire department has consulted with the Christian County Health Department and is following all CDC and state Department of Health guidelines.
According to the fire chief, the firefighter was last at the station on June 8th and had no symptoms, and other members present on that day have been advised to monitor for symptoms and get tested as needed. He adds the firefighter has not responded to any emergencies in over 21-days.
Chief Belair says this is the fire department’s first confirmed case and they are praying for the firefighter’s speedy recovery. He adds they are taking every precaution and following the commended protocols to ensure the best possible outcome for the members of the fire department.
With the ongoing COVID-19 emergency, Pembroke’s fire chief says they will continue to perform routine sanitizing of equipment after each call and training.
