Challenge House Accepting Applications For Summer Work Program

The Challenge House in Hopkinsville will be holding its 10th Annual Attitude, Training & Teamwork (AT&T) summer teen work readiness program beginning June 22nd.

Michelle Wilson with Challenge House says applications are being accepted through Thursday for the first session, which begins Monday and continues through Friday. She says applicants are required to live within the inner-city neighborhoods and classes will be held at Challenge House #4 located at 517 North Elm Street from 1:00 until 5:00 each day. Students will mentor with local employers starting Friday, June 26 through Friday, July 3rd. Wilson says a total of 20 students will be selected from Challenge House #3 located at 123 South Fowler Street, Challenge House #4, and Challenge House #5 located at 2130 Crockett Street. She notes students who complete 16 hours of “boot camp” (4 hours of in-house sessions including local professionals speaking to teens) and 16 hours of job shadowing will graduate and receive a $200 “paycheck” from Challenge House. Graduation for the first session will be Monday afternoon, July 6 at 5:00.

According to Wilson, the second session will July 13 through July 16 from 1:00 until 5:00 at Challenge House #7 located at 1605 Phelps Avenue. She says this session will include 20 students selected from Challenge House #1 located at 1001 Central Avenue, Challenge House #2 located at 311 Bryan Street and Challenge House #7. Application forms for the second session need to be turned in, in person, on Tuesday, July 7th from 5:00 until 7:00 at Challenge House #7. Graduation for the second session will be Friday afternoon July 24, at 5:00.
