Embattled Superintendent Retires from Caldwell County Schools

After only two years the Caldwell County Board of Education will again be searching for a School Superintendent following the announcement concerning the retirement of current Superintendent Nate Huggins.

During a Board of Education meeting that was aired live on WPKY Monday night Board Chairman Tim Kennaday read a letter detailing Huggins’ retirement request.

Huggins explained that while he loves Caldwell County School District he wasn’t a good fit.

Huggins’ retirement announcement comes following recent community backlash over the recommendation to combine the high school and middle school band programs under the tutelage of one instructor, which was later struck down by the Board. People also expressed their displeasure on social media after The Times Leader ran a letter to 2020 graduates from Huggins, in which various posts claimed he had plagiarized words originally written by Savannah-Chatham County Public School System Superintendent Dr. Ann Levett. Huggins later apologized for the incident over a one call sent out by the school, stating he should have given credit to Levett.

Chairman Kennaday stated the Board would seek an interim before beginning the superintendent selection process.
