Community Helps Raise Over $7,000 for King’s Kitchen

The community has done it again, they’ve stepped up and made sure food insecure children here in our own backyard won’t go hungry this summer.

WPKY partnered with King’s Kitchen Summer Feeding Program and Princeton Food Giant to host a food drive Friday at the WPKY studios and Princeton, Fredonia, and Caldwell County residents did not disappoint. King’s Kitchen volunteer Sheila Meeks says $7,061.79 was raised and several hundreds of pounds of food were donated during the event, which will allow them to fulfill their calling.

With the coronavirus pandemic throwing a wrench in several events this summer King’s Kitchen director Lee Anne Gilkey states volunteers still want to do what they can to help feed children in need and would not cancel the program.

Gilkey explains that instead of the normal home-cooked meals that are delivered three days a week the program will provide families with groceries for each registered child every Monday in July.

Donation drop zone at Princeton Food Giant for the community to easily donate purchased food

Princeton Food Giant set up a display in the store with specific items needed for King’s Kitchen for easy purchase and even had a drop zone to bring the items to the food drive. Store Manager Marshall Oakley says they will keep the display and drop zone in the store for the foreseeable future so donations will continue to be accepted.

Parents or guardians who may have children who need to participate in the program can register their child, or children, until June 22nd by calling Lee Anne Gilkey at 270-625-4627.
