Christian County Schools To Resume Athletics

The Christian County School Board has approved the process for fall sports to resume workouts and practices on campus while also addressing the question of what happens if an athlete tests positive for COVID-19.

At a special called virtual meeting Thursday, the school board approved the new policy for the resumption of athletics, which closely resembles the guidelines sent down by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association last Friday.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel said athletes can return to campus Monday, June 8 to begin the process of returning to play.

Under a waiver form to be signed by the parent, that athlete must be tested for COVID-19. Bentzel said the school will follow health department guidelines for any positive test, which could include a practice stoppage for a team if more than one person tests positive.

Players will be allowed to work out in groups of eight with two coaches monitoring the group workouts and players will not be allowed to switch groups.

Bentzel said he hopes to name a previously approved district-wide athletic director in the coming days. One of the job duties will be to oversee the district’s COVID-19 plan for resuming sports.
