MSU Announces Modifications To Fall 2020 Academic Calendar

Officials at Murray State University say students will return to in-person classes for the fall 2020 academic year, but with modifications for the health, safety, and well-being of the campus and the broader community.

MSU officials say the calendar has been condensed to minimize student travel to and from campus during the holidays for the safety and well-being of students. Classes will begin on Monday, August 17, instead of the 18th with the University to hold classes on two days formerly scheduled for fall break on Thursday and Friday, October 8-9. Additionally, the last day of in-person instruction will be Friday, November 20th.

They add students with internships, clinicals, practicum, and other experiential learning may proceed with completion through the end of the fall semester on December 11.

Officials say there will be modified finals week of three days, Wednesday through Friday, November 18-20, with an additional 3:30 pm and 6 p.m. examination slot each day.

With the advice and consent of state health officials, MSU’s commencement is planned for Saturday, November 21, inclusive of May and August 2020 graduates in addition to those who are scheduled to graduate this fall.

In addition, University officials say students will have the opportunity to advance their academic goals by taking a course remotely via the University’s new “Holiday Term” which is online-only beginning Monday, November 23, and ending Friday, December 11. Students may enroll in a maximum of one course for this term. The “Winter Term”, which is online-only, will begin Monday, December 14, and end Wednesday, January 6, 2021, followed by the spring semester which begins on Monday, January 11, 2021.
