A Princeton native has been elected to serve as the board chair of a national non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the expansion of college opportunities for low-income students.

Dr. Chris George, a 1994 Caldwell County graduate and son of Princeton City Council member Pat George, was recently announced the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) Board Chair-Elect. In an interview with the News Edge, George stated the organization strives to help less fortunate students have successful college and secondary education careers.

He added that the position will see him working at the organization’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

According to the organization’s website, the Council works in conjunction with more than 1,000 colleges, universities, and agencies to help low-income or first-generation students and those with disabilities to enter college and graduate. The website indicates over a million eligible students receive college access and retention services each year.

George, who is a program director at Western Kentucky University, stays connected to his high school alma mater by keeping stats for YourSportsEdge during the Caldwell County Tiger football season.
